Why Salt And Charcoal Are Added In Earthing Pit?

Hello All Welcome Back To Our Blog Electrical Online 360°. Today we discuss about the most important electrical engineering interview questions which is usually ask in everywhere in campus interview.

Question:

Why Salt and Charcoal are Added in Earthing pit?

Why Salt and Charcoal Are Added in Earthing Pit
Why Salt and Charcoal Are Added in Earthing Pit?

Reason:

The basic reasons to add salt and charcoal in every earthing pit is described in very simple language, which you can easily understand.

The value of earth is generally depends on:

The Resistivity level of the soil in particular area.

Actually when we measure the resistance which is not the electrode resistance but it is the actual resistance of conductor and it is depends on soil.

We know that the flow of fault current take the low resistance path. So the fault current take the path of soil. If the value of resistivity is higher than the flow of faulty current can't take it's flow properly.

So, For proper flow of faulty current in soil at the time of shock depends on resistivity level of soil. So, resistivity level of the soil is must be low as compare to human body and as compare to near be equipment or devices.

All above criteria must be fulfilled by adding salt and charcoal in earthing pit. Now we learn how charcoal and salt will ne helpful to create low resistivity level of soil

Use Of Charcoal In Earthing Pit

Charcoal is one type of absorbent, means which is more helpful to absorb the moisture content in the soil. So, low moisture content means resistivity level also make low. therefore charcoal is added in earthing pit.

Use Of Salt In Earthing Pit

We know that to pass the flow of fault current or leakage current the conductivity must be high. So salt is added to increase conductivity.

Therefore the salt and charcoal both are added in earthing pit to take the flow of fault current or leakage current in soil to avoid shock. So use of both product is necessarily added in earthing pit.
